Aircraft Painting(Under Development)

Aircraft and Railway car Painting

Taikisha's Technology

What is airplane/railway vehicle painting?

Large objects such as aircraft and railroad vehicles also have painting and sanding, but due to their large size, automation has not progressed. In recent years, automation is progressing due to advances in shape recognition technology for large objects and technology for mounting and moving robots. Taikisha is developing a system equipped with a lifter / robot on an AGV and shape recognition technology by 3D scanner shape measurement and analysis of captured images as automation technology for painting and sanding of large objects. We are ready to put it to practical use.

Can provide solutions to these problems

  • Want to lift productivity
  • Want to improve labor environments and achieve automation

Overview

Taikisha delivers automated aircraft painting systems aimed at increasing productivity, decreasing material requirements, reducing hazardous work, and improving quality by applying know-how cultivated in the automotive painting business. Besides, Taikisha is developing systems that automate the processes of paint removal, sanding, and repainting during heavy maintenance (repainting usually done about once every five years).

Features

  • Using robotic systems to automate painting processes

Each work process is automated using a work platform equipped with an AGV (Automatic Guided Vehicle) mounted with a lifter and a robot, which are combined with a painting machine, or a sanding machine, as interchangeable tools.
The painting system is a twin system comprising a large work platform and a small work platform. Paint processes are performed using an appropriate work platform depending on the height of the target work locations. After detecting and confirming the position of an airframe, the AGV, lifter, robot, and interchangeable tools are operated automatically, by a program, while detecting the position of the work platform. The painting machines are equipped with electrostatic bells designed to reduce paint usage and improve the quality of painting.
The painting machines are also loaded with various sensors to protect the airframe and human life, and come with safety features that suspend operation automatically when an abnormality is detected.
To begin with, we are developing automated sanding for compact working trollies.

The robot systems in the illustrated AGV are patented.
  • Painting different types of part

Aircraft parts come in different sizes and shapes, and different types of paint are used for aircraft painting.
Several tens of thousands of varieties of parts are used in aircraft, and painting processes require that appropriate paints and baking conditions are used according to the characteristics of each part.
Using its unique parts identification system, Taikisha delivers paint systems that are compatible with the wide range of parts used in aircraft.

  • Large Space Environmental Control System for Airframe Painting

Various surface processing steps, including masking, sanding, and painting, are performed in the aircraft paint booth. So, it is necessary to ventilate the paint booth during work that exposes workers to solvents and dust.
Taikisha's ventilation temperature control systems are equipped with temperature control systems and ventilation opening position switching systems, etc. to create the proper temperature, air volume and direction for each work, allowing an appropriate environment to be maintained for individual work. Our painting systems can switch operation modes—"preparation mode" for performing work such as the masking, "painting mode" for the painting work, and "drying mode" for the drying work after the painting. Operation modes can be switched to a mode for painting the fuselage and for painting the wings. Air is supplied from the surface of the ceiling when the fuselage is being painted and from the front surface of a wing when a wing is being painted, creating an appropriate airstream for each work.
